Barry & Maureen tell on
Each Other
Barry
tells on Maureen
See that pretty blonde girl on the bottom? She's Maureen McCormick, a fellow
member of The Brady Bunch - and a very good friend of mine! I've got a thing or
two to tell you about her I bet you've never heard before!
Maureen and I (and all the
rest of the Brady gang) had never met before we became members of the same TV
"family" - and we were really "strangers" during the filming of the pilot
episode. We liked each other right away, though - and soon became good friends.
Our parents have become friends too - and sometimes we all get together after
the TV cameras have stopped rolling for the day.
Did you know that Maureen
has a great singing voice and plays the guitar like a pro? Well, she does! I was
with her recently when she sang at a benefit for the blind in Los Angeles - and
that gal can sing up a storm! I'll bet you anything that she cuts a record of
her own in the very near future!
Maureen has a good sense of
humor and she loves to play practical jokes. She played one on me recently. I
was having my lunch with the Brady gang and I was really hungry. I took a big
bite of my salad - and it tasted so horrible I couldn't believe it! I grabbed
for a bottle of 7-Up to wash the taste out of my mouth - and it tasted just as
bad! I was almost ready to run for the doctor and have my taste-buds checked
when I heard Maureen's familiar giggle! She had poured half a bottle of liquid
sweetener into my salad - and my 7-Up! I was a little "mad" - but I had to laugh
too!
Chris Knight and I cooked up
a little scheme to pay her back. One day on the set we pointed at Maureen and
began to whisper and laugh together. She got a little up-tight and came over and
asked us what we were whispering about. After a slight hesitation, we told her
that her "epidermis" was showing. She must've thought that "epidermis" meant her
petticoat, cos she rushed into her dressing room to check herself out! Then she
looked the word up in the dictionary - and found out that "epidermis" means
skin! Of course, she came out and had a good laugh with us. Maureen is a great
sport - she can laugh at the practical jokes of others as well as her own!
Maureen is a real sharp
dresser. She has great taste in clothes. (Eve Plumb is the real "mod" of the
Brady gang, though). It's a good thing for Maureen that we don't have to wear
make-up on The Brady Bunch, cos she hates it! Maureen much prefers the "natural"
look.
Maureen and I go out
together sometimes - but just as pals. There isn't a "romance" going on between
us or anything like that. Recently, Maureen and I double-dated with Florence
Henderson's daughter Barbara and my brother Scott. We went out to dinner - and
guess what we had? Hamburgers! Maureen's got a real passion for them. She's a
regular "Wimpy"!
Sometimes, when we have a
particularly difficult scene to do on The Brady Bunch, we work on it together.
Maureen likes to do "emotional" scenes best of all. She's a real perfectionist
about her role - and she works very hard to make sure that it's letter-perfect!
She'll kill me for this -
but I'm going to tell you, anyway! Maureen has a big crush on actor Paul Newman!
Any time a new movie comes out with Paul in it, you'd better believe that
Maureen McCormick is one of the first customers in line!
Maureen has a little "growing up" to do - but then, don't we all? She's only 13,
you know. She's got plenty of time (and plenty of talent too.) She has a
fantastic potential. Not only is she a great little actress - she's a total
human being. Maureen's for real!
One thing is for sure. No
matter what Maureen tries to do in the future - acting, singing or whatever -
she's sure to be a winner! She's quite a gal - and quite a pal!
Maureen tells on Barry
Boy, is my face red! (Or should I say my "epidermis"?) But this is a two-way
story and now it's my turn to tell you a few things about Barry Williams!
Barry has a fabulous sense
of humor - and he is always making me (and the rest of the Brady gang) laugh!
Sometimes he makes us laugh at the wrong times - like when we're supposed to be
studying our lines - but we don't really mind. He called me a practical joker.
If I told you some of the practical jokes he's played on me lately it would
really curl your hair! Let it suffice to say - Barry has pulled some real
"shockers"!
Did you know that Barry is a
fantastic singer? And he plays a good guitar too! The strange thing is that he
won't admit how good he is. He tells people he can't sing very well because he's
too shy to admit that he's got so much musical talent. Barry sings pop and folk
songs, and his secret wish is to sing professionally someday. (Well, Barry-your
secret wish isn't a secret anymore!)
Barry is a real "outdoor"
type of guy. He spends almost every spare minute surfing at Manhattan Beach or
Santa Monica Beach. He has his own surfboard and he is really a good surfer. As
a matter of fact, Barry almost lives in the water. It's a good thing that The
Brady Bunch takes up so much of his time or he'd get waterlogged! He lives very
close to the beach-so it's an easy thing for him to go swimming anytime he feels
like it.
Barry just got himself a
Honda CB-350 mini-cycle-and he's crazy about it. You can get a Learner's Permit
when you are 14 in California (if you've had Driver's Education and Driver's
Training in school.) Barry's Learner's Permit allows him to drive his mini-cycle
as long as he doesn't drive it after dark or on any major highway. He's not
allowed to let anyone ride on the back, either-so none of the Brady gang have
had a chance to go for a ride with him.
Barry also rides his own
horse "Ya-Teh-Ha" a lot. I go horseback riding too whenever time permits, but as
yet I haven't gone riding with Barry. I'd like to, though. (Take a hint, Barry!)
Barry is a real "clothes
horse". He has great taste in clothing and always looks well in anything he
wears. He got a new tan Safari jacket that really looks neat-and he always wears
groovy stovepipe pants. I'd say it's a toss-up between Barry and Eve Plumb as to
which one is the "mod" of the Brady gang! They both wear the wildest new styles!
Barry drinks more milk than
anyone I know. He can drink it by the gallon! I don't know where he puts it
all-but no matter how much food he's eaten for lunch, he always finds room for a
glass or two of milk.
Barry is very close to his
family. He has a wonderful relationship with his two older brothers too. Barry's
brothers-Craig (who turned 20 in June) and Scott (who'll be 19 in September)-
should both try out for an acting career. They are really cute- and they'd both
make good actors. Besides, talent seems to run in the Williams family.
Barry is a very helpful guy.
He always manages to find the time to help the other members of The Brady Bunch
with a difficult scene-and I enjoy working on my lines with him. He's always
smiling-and I don't think I've ever seen him when he's in a bad mood. He gets a
little gloomy when there is a lot of pressure, but the gloom never lasts long.
Barry and I share a lot of
the same interests. We both like to listen to the music of Simon and Garfunkel.
We both would like to sing professionally someday-and we both play guitar and
sing folk songs. Barry is a lot of fun to go places with-and even though he
teases me a lot, plays practical jokes and doesn't take me horseback riding-I
hope we'll always remain the good friends we are now!
