It's only natural that sisters and brothers
share secrets. But this is also true friends! The Brady Bunch count
themselves twice as lucky because they're "sisters and brothers" and
friends alike!
Susan
felt her bike's wheels spinning wildly and out of control as she saw the
patch of gravel too late. She tried to keep the scream from coming out
but she knew that was too late, too! As she felt herself falling, a loud
shriek came from her lips. The others crowded around her and Barry
helped her to her feet. Maureen dusted the sand from Susan's clothes and
asked, "Susan, are you all right?" Susan smiled sweetly at her "brothers
and sisters" and pointed to the tree. "Did you see the momma bird
feeding her babies?" They all looked in the direction she pointed at and
laughed as the nest of birds chirped loudly. Eve hugged Susan and said,
"Oh, Susan, you nut!" It was a typical happening on the set of The Brady
Bunch!
The six kids laughed as they each
jokingly teased Susan about her love of animals. They had all eaten
lunch together outdoors during the break and Susan had wanted to show
them a new trick she'd learned on her bike. But, before she did, Susan
had seen the birds and not the tricky gravel that had caused her to
fall.
Despite the teasing, Susan smiled
because she knew they understood how she felt about any animal. She
loved them all-from little birds to the huge elephants in the zoo! This
was one of her secret loves and she knew that the others respected it.
It was just the way it was with all of them. When they had all first
met, each one was secretly nervous about the fact that they might not
hit it off as friends.
As time passed, though, each of the
kids who made up the Brady Bunch realized that the fondness that they
showed each other every week wasn't acting at all-it was genuine,
true-to-life friendships! Work on the set wasn't like work at all. It
seemed like being at home with their own "family"! And they soon began
to take advantage of the breaks between shootings to get to know each
other better.
Before anyone actually said it out
loud, they were all super good friends who cared for each other as much
as real sisters and brothers would! And became of the friendships they
knew they had, trusting and loyalty became a big part of their
relationships. Each one respected the ideas of the others. They all
realized that they were separate individuals and all agreed on saying,
"to each his own." That's what made it easy to get along with each
other-they didn't make fun of the other person's secrets-likes, dislikes
or dreams!
They
shared a lot of secrets together. Secrets that others might not be able
to understand or appreciate without knowing them well. Secrets that they
felt safe in confiding to one another because each person knew the
others cared.
Susan's love for animals was a
secret she wasn't afraid to show, but the others understood it better
than most. They all knew how she could spend hours gazing at something
like a mother bird feeding her young. And there was Maureen's secret
that she knew the others could appreciate. Her dreams of being the kind
of actress who worked hard and deserved any success that came her way.
But who would always remember that success came from true talent not
"phony press releases."
Eve Plumb gives people the
impression of being very friendly and outgoing. But the others knew her
secret because she'd confessed to them one day that her friendliness was
a super effort to on her part to hide her basic and long-time shyness!
That's why they never pushed Eve when new people came on the set because
they knew her secret and kept it safe. And Eve always came out on
top-smiling!
And then there were the boys! How they all laughed when they discovered
that each one of them secretly loved to sing!
This came about during a taping of
an episode when Barry had written a song. During rehearsal, each of them
was enjoying the song so much that they all admitted there was a secret
"singing streak" in each of them!
But all of these were secrets that
could be revealed. There were super secrets they shared and would keep
on sharing only with each other! That was the whole point in caring for
each other the way they did. Each secret was safe in the hands of the
other. In the hands of a brother or a sister or a friend-in their
hands-the Brady Bunch!
